Matcap Material

In Canvas Studio, the Mesh Matcap Material offers a unique way to shade 3D objects without using scene lights. Instead of responding to light sources, it uses a special texture called a MatCap (short for Material Capture) to fake lighting and reflections. This texture contains pre-rendered shading baked into a circular image, which is projected onto the surface based on the object’s normals and the viewer’s angle. It’s perfect for stylized renders, sculpting previews, or fast visualization where lighting isn’t required.
