In Canvas Studio, a Point Light emits light in every direction from a single point in space, much like a bulb or a flame. It’s ideal for simulating spherical light sources: floating orbs, lanterns, torches, and can fill a scene with soft, radial illumination. When enabled, it can also cast dynamic shadows outward in all directions.
color – sets the hue of the light; this determines the tint of both the illumination and any shadows it casts.
intensity – controls how bright the light appears; higher values create stronger lighting and more defined highlights.
distance – maximum range of the light before it fully fades; leave at 0 for infinite range, or set a value to create falloff.
decay – determines how light diminishes with distance; a value of 2 mimics real-world inverse-square decay, while lower or higher values control how fast or slow the falloff happens.
castShadow – enables shadow casting from the point light, allowing it to create dynamic shadows in every direction via a cubemap shadow pass.
helper – toggles a small marker in the scene to show where the light is located, useful during layout.
position – sets the XYZ location of the light in your 3D scene.
bias – nudges shadow depth slightly to reduce self-shadowing artifacts (“shadow acne”).
normalBias – pushes shadows along the normal direction to fight light leaking and flickering at steep angles.
mapSize (width / height) – resolution of the shadow cubemap texture; larger values result in sharper shadows at the cost of GPU memory.
camera (near / far) – sets the near and far clipping distances for shadow rendering; adjust to tightly fit the area you want shadows in for best quality.
The Point Light is powerful for localized, omnidirectional illumination. With shadow settings, decay control, and intensity scaling, it’s capable of simulating everything from harsh interior bulbs to soft, magical glows; especially when paired with physical materials and smart falloff settings.
