This effect is best used to emphasize movement and interactivity, providing a visually rich connection between the user’s motion and the 3D space they’re navigating.
The Trail Geometry Effect in Canvas Studio generates a series of trailing instances of a specific 3D element of your choice that follow the user’s cursor in real time, creating a smooth visual echo. Rather than tracking the movement of the element itself, the trail effect uses the cursor as its guide, continuously duplicating and offsetting the chosen object to create the illusion of motion streaks. The result is a stylized, kinetic trail that visually connects user input with 3D geometry, especially effective for interaction design, cursor-based navigation, or atmospheric animation layers. You can find the following settings by enabling Trail Geometry Effect in the WebGL Effects section of the Configure tab.
Target Element – specifies which 3D object gets duplicated along the trail path; this element will be instantiated multiple times.
Trail Distance – defines how long the trail is behind the cursor, effectively controlling how many ghosted instances remain visible.
Fade Out – when toggled on, older instances gradually reduce in opacity, allowing the trail to blend out smoothly instead of ending abruptly.
